Information about appeal
Last updated: 22 April 2025.
All decisions regarding official registrations can be appealed.
In most cases, you can correct the mistakes we have referred to in our letter of decision and send the original document once more, without having to appeal. In that case, the document will be officially registered at the point in time when we receive it again.
However, if you disagree with our decision, you can appeal.
Anyone who has received a decision, can appeal. This also applies to someone affected by the decision (legal interest).
The deadline is one month from the time when you received the decision digitally or by post.
If you are not the person receiving the decision, the deadline is one month from the point in time when you got knowledge about or should have gotten knowledge about the decision.
Did you appeal too late?
You can appeal even though the deadline has passed. It is still possible to appeal if you can justify why you did not appeal within the deadline. If so, we will consider whether or not the appeal can be processed.
The final deadline of an appeal is one year after the decision was made.
The appeal must be in writing, and must contain information about:
- Which decision it is related to
- Why you think the decision is incorrect
The appeal must have an original signature or be digitally signed in a signing system which ensures authenticity (that it is verifiable), for instance Posten signeringsportal. It will not be sufficient to submit a scanned version of a physically signed appeal.
The appeal must be sent by e-mail to firmapost@brreg.no or by post to:
The Brønnøysund Register Centre
The name of the register (The Register of Mortgaged Moveable Property, The Register of Marriage Settlements or The Aquaculture Register)
P. O. Box 905
8910 Brønnøysund
There is a cost of six times the court fee for an appeal. The list of court fee rates is available in the court fee regulations (Lovdata). You have to pay the fee in advance.
If you have a lawyer to represent you, the fee can normally be paid in arrears.
Once you have lodged an appeal, you will receive more information about when and how to pay the fee.
If you appeal, we will reconsider the decision. If we maintain our decision, the appeal will be forwarded to Hålogaland court of appeal for a decision.
